Today I went on a Christmas Ride with a group of horsey friends. We added tinsel where we could and set off for a mulled wine at the pub in the next village.
It was absolutely gorgeous weather, cold, but the sky was beautifully clear. We had a good natter on the way round and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. You can’t beat catching up with like minded friends.
Between work and Christmas parties and preparation I really, really, valued some quality time in the great outdoors. It got me thinking what a difference fresh air makes to how we feel.
Whilst I was outside, breathing in the lovely cool air was amazing. When I got home, having done all of the jobs that go with having a horse, I was perfectly worn out. Ready to sit and relax but not so exhausted that I needed to flop. A really satisfying kind of tired. A really restful state to be in.
When things get hectic for your this Christmas make time for some outdoor fun. It could be anything, a walk to a cafe, a game of rounders, a run. Whatever it is allow your mind to be present and to soak up the sensations that you experience as you go.
Enjoy listening to your friends and family when you are in company, make time to enjoy the countryside, drink that mulled wine slowly! When you get home notice how good you feel for having been out experiencing the world.
So often we go through the motions without appreciating the experience. Just a simple reminder to be present can make all the difference. A short trip out could be the highlight of your Christmas if you do it in the right way.
If you get frustrated with your mind wandering then a Revitalise Day could be a great way to start your new year. Our next retreat day is on 09 01 2016 and it will be the perfect opportunity to focus your attention on how you want your new year to be.
