Snacking doesn’t have to be bad. The key is to chose the right sort of snacks and to do it in the right way.
Choosing something nutritious and satisfying is the first step to good snacking. One of my favourites when i fancy something to give me an energy boost is rice cakes with almond butter and jam on top. At the moment I have some blueberry jam which is made from just fruit, there is no added sugar. This snack is almost like having a Snickers bar – nuts and sweetness without all of the calories and fat, perfect!
The second thing to keep in mind is the quantity of the snack that you are going to have. If I start on a pack of rice cakes and spread my topping on without thinking about portion size I could easily be half way through the pack by the time I stop and think. So chose how many you think you need and put your food on a plate. Tidy up and then sit down and enjoy. If you avoid overeating when you snack you will also avoid any associated guilt.
Finally, always sit down and always focus on your eating. If you nibble whilst you are distracted you will barely notice that you have had a snack. If you pay property attention whilst you eat you will enjoy it so much more and you will feel more satisfied.
So how and when you snack really is an individual choice but following these simple guidelines will help you to feel happy with you eating habits. A clear mind after eating is worth so much. When you eat well you feel great and that is reflected in the rest of your day.
On a Revitalise Day you eat amazing healthy food that leaves you feeling great. You will leave inspired to focus more on your food. The retreats are held in a beautiful farmhouse location in the lovely Leicestershire village of Walton on the Wolds. Mindfulness and healthy eating really do go head in hand.
