For the last couple of days I have been in London with my Mum. We had an amazing time pottering round the sights and the shops.
We saw lovely Christmas decorations, drank delicious mulled wine, had many a coffee and generally enjoyed ourselves. I even loved the work course that took me down there in the first place.
Just being together was great. We talked lots and had a real laugh. Part of our laughing came from an unexpected source….Meditation.
We shared a bedroom and so we attempted a Meditation to get us to sleep last night. I asked mum to talk us through it, which she tried, but the trouble was that we both kept bursting into laughter!!!
So we lay in our beds shaking with laughter and then second later we were both asleep.
When I lead sessions I come across ‘gigglers’ every now and then. I know from personal experience that if you try to tell someone to stop laughing then it becomes even more impossible.
Actually laughter is a great way to relax. That explains why we fell asleep last night within seconds of giggling.
So if fits of giggles come over you when you try to meditate then rest safe in the knowledge that you are not unusual – it happens to the best of us!
Try not to worry about it – just think – you are still getting more relaxation.
