I’m on a special diet and fitness routine in order to overcome MS. Because of this I naturally take an interest in articles and programmes about diet and well being. I can’t help but listen and be interested when I notice advice being given. There are so many conflicting theories about what we should and shouldn’t eat and I am always keen to listen to the whys.
Noah was eating his cereal yesterday morning and really enjoying it. He had brown rice puffs and hemp milk. As I was watching him eat it got me thinking about why having breakfast is always highlighted as a key factor in any diet. Whether the diet is aimed at weight loss, better fitness training, or better health, the experts always say that the first meal of the day is the most important.
I have heard many claims that eating early gets the metabolism going and helps to burn more calories, a part of me thinks that calories are calories, the less you eat the less you will weigh. But…i’m not a scientist!
More than this though the concept of breakfast stands out to me as a good time to put your intention to eat well in place for the day. Make your breakfast healthy and satisfying then staying on track for the rest of the day is easier. You are already committed, the decision to eat things full of goodness is made, you have already started so you carry on.
In meditation it is always a really good idea to put your intention in at the beginning of the session, this means thinking about who will benefit from you doing the exercise. It only takes a few moments at the outset your practise and it gives you real commitment to stick to the exercise. You aren’t just doing it for yourself, you do it so others benefit too. I think it is the same with diet. Put your intention to eat well in at the beginning of the day and committing to nourishing your body will stick with you from then on in.
Give it a try. Being mindful about what you eat makes all the difference to how you eat and how you feel. Eat well and your body and mind will thank you.
On a Revitalise Day healthy, nourishing and delicious food is at the heart of the experience. The mindfulness and meditation puts you in the perfect frame of mind to enjoy it to the full.
