Today my lovely friend Sarah and her family came to see us for second breakfast! She was on a trip to see her family and we were a half way stop.
Sarah is pregnant with her second baby and she is coping amazingly with gestational diabetes. Although I felt sorry for her I loved the fact that she too had become a label reader! My diet means that I am always checking what things contain.
We first met as students and we spent many happy times eating and drinking to excess without thinking of the impact on our long term health. When we were younger we thought we were invincible.
As we have had our children we have realised the need to look after ourselves. We have both started to make better lifestyle choices. Staying healthy is a priority.
Rather than worrying about climbing the career ladder we have both accepted loving our work life as it is. Rather than eating the unhealthy foods we once loved we have adapted to enjoying better alternatives. Rather than getting stressed out we have both found ways to chill out and make the most of our families.
For both of us our health has demanded that we pay more attention to our well being. Although this initially made some things difficult I think that coping with our respective health challenges has left us better than ever.
Mindfulness has certainly been the key to my improved lifestyle. When you learn to meditate it allows you to experience an improvement instantly. After you have done a meditation you can appreciate how much better you feel for having taken some time for yourself.
Remembering the lovely way you feel post meditation becomes easier the more that you do it. This way you feel committed to keeping the new habit going. You feel better about yourself and this makes it all worth it.
If you feel that you need to make more time for yourself start by booking on to a Revitalise Day. The day is a chance to step away from everyday worries and to make well being your priority.
