Today I went into town with my lovely friend Hannah.
We had a potter, went for a coffee and went to the cinema. It was a real treat to have an afternoon of Hannah chatter!
We both work full time and Hannah has a long commute so we don’t catch up as often as we would like. We got to the stage where weeks would slip by and we wouldn’t have made time for each other. Over the last couple of months we have started putting a date in the diary for each other.
We don’t plan what we are going to do but we simply mark an afternoon out to spend with each other. It works really well. We see what the weather is like and let the plan form at the last minute.
When life gets really hectic it can be difficult to make sure you do the things you want to do and to see the people you most want to see. Using your diary can be a great way to achieve those things. By keeping a particular afternoon free I am clear in my mind that I must not book anything else in.
By being clear about our plans we can avoid all sorts of mental chatter. If we don’t book things in then life takes over and we can be left with feelings of conflict, guilt and even regret. Being left with happy feelings of friendship and satisfaction is much better!
Mindfulness is not all about meditation. It is also about finding ways to enjoy being in the moment. Sometimes we need to plan to a certain extent to be able to achieve the sort of life we want to live. By setting time aside we can make sure we are free to enjoy every second without worry.
Have a think about the things that you want to fit in to your life. Make a start today with meditation and you will find yourself more clear headed and doing more things that you love. Come on a Revitalise Day to get started.
