This is the card I got for Noah to give to Martyn. It seemed particularly appropriate (in an ironic sort of way)…
Ironic because there was no way he was having a fry up this morning! He loves a good fry up as much as any one but since I got diagnosed with MS and Noah and I entered a fat free lifestyle he has been so supportive that he wouldn’t even consider making himself one.
He still eats meat when he can but most days he is really happy to eat the vast amounts of vegetables that we eat, with fish as our meat substitute. This has been a big change for him but there has never been any question that he would be anything but supportive. That has meant so much to me and it has made it possible to keep Noah happy on the diet too. When he sees me and Martyn eating healthy food all the time that is all he expects too. Perfect.
Father’s really are amazing. Sometimes it can be really easy to take our nearest and dearest for granted but having a reminder to be thankful for all that they do for us is often just what we need. Father’s day is a real excuse to spend some time together and to appreciate the special people we have in our life. Noah is one lucky boy.
Mindfulness is great for helping us to appreciate others. When we meditate we create some head space so that rather than rushing through life in a haze we actually notice the great people we have around us.
To appreciate the people in your life to the full try this. Each time you get a moment to yourself think about the people that you have just been with. Think of one thing that you can learn from each person. Everyone can teach us something. Write down the things you can learn form each person in a note book. From time to time take a few minutes to look through your list, it will inspire you each time you do.
My father’s day list goes like this…
Martyn – teaches me to be more understanding.
My Dad – teaches me to help whenever I can.
Martyn’s Dad- teaches me to be really interested in everyone.
