Mindfulness really can impact on every area of our life. Mindful eating is a great way to help with your diet. It can help improve the quality of the food you eat and also the quantity. A great tool if you want to manage your weight.
Making good food choices when you are out shopping is really essential if you want to improve how you are eating. If you don’t buy junk you won’t eat it. Simple! Equally if you make some good choices whilst scanning the shelves of your supermarket you are on track for some great healthy meals.
I absolutely love fish and we have it many times each week. Buying from the supermarket fish counter would be the obvious choice but I have seen documentaries that call into question how fresh that fish really is. When we went on holiday to Dartmouth recently we were lucky enough to be very close to a great fishmonger, Moby Nick! That was great for a holiday treat but it would be expensive as a regular. So my solution is frozen fish. I get bags of tuna and salmon from Aldi. It is so delicious. I simply wrap it in tin foil and put it in the oven with a little water and/or lemon juice to keep it moist. I put it on 200 for about half an hour and that’s it, easy peasy (lemon squeezy). Great with a salad and potatoes, roasted veg, rice, even in a sandwich as a burger substitute!
Mindfulness in making food choices isn’t complicated. It is simply about being present in the moment whilst you are shopping. Rather than automatically piling the same old food into your trolley without thinking about it, stop and make a conscious decision about each item you are going to buy.
So often we act out of habit but every now and then it does us good to think about our choices and see whether we really are happy with them.
