The week before Christmas Martyn, Noah and I joined my sisters family in visiting some friends who live in Derbyshire. We had all been busy getting ready for Christmas and for the visit and then we were all a little later than we wanted to be on our journey.
Rather than getting in a tiz about being late we made the decision to stop and take a break! We all went into a lovely coffee Shop called Sticky Fingers, in Ashbourne, for a quick cuppa before we carried on to our friend’s house. The cafe is in a gift shop that has lovely bits and bobs, so whilst we waited for our drinks we had a slow walk round taking in our gorgeous surroundings. We were only in there for 15 minutes but it made all the difference to the way we felt.
It was such a good move, we had a lovely time and rather than arriving stressed and parched we all felt refreshed and ready to go.
Once we had stopped we took just a few minutes to get back to enjoying ourselves. We were back to being present in the moment rather than charging through the day without making the most of it.
Next time you feel like you are running at a million miles an hour try to think about the benefit of taking 5 minutes to come back to being you. If going to a coffee shop isn’t your thing or isn’t an option then just try taking in your surroundings and then sitting where ever you are and listening to your breath for a couple of minutes. It won’t take long before you feel much more with it and able to make the most of the time that you do have.
Mindfulness is all about living in the moment and being present with the thoughts and emotions that arise. Rather than slowing us down it allows us to get more done, more effectivly and with more enjoyment. If this sounds like something you need in your life then come on a Revitalise Day to experience lots of amazing benefits. Perhaps try Sticky Fingers too!
