Last Sunday I spent the afternoon digging on the vegetable patch. On Monday I felt fine, and then by Tuesday my shoulder really hurt.
The pain started in the night. I woke up in the early hours with it throbbing. Luckily I had the mindfulness tools to help. I really focussed on the pain and tried to examine it. I tried to work out what the sensation was. Eventually my mind drifted onto other things and it turned into a dream, I was back asleep. Success!
But the next day it was still hurting and I asked my mum who is a bit of a body pain expert to have a go at massaging it. She did an amazing job just using some moisturiser on it and it has been so much better.
We all know that when a child hurts themselves you rub the pain. Rubbing my shoulder really helped. It isn’t an old wives tale that rubbing an injury helps, it really is true. Rather than your brain simply receiving messages of pain it receives messages of comfort at the same time which reduce the intensity of the pain that you feel. Magic.
Having the tools to sort yourself out, whether from a physical pain or mental anguish, is amazing. Revitalise Days are all about learning the techniques to help you do this. Everyone needs to look after themselves and if you learn a skilful way to do it everything becomes easier and life seems a little lighter.
