Mindful Approach At Work

21st November 2016 by Alex Leave a Comment

Yesterday I went to a cafe on a double decker bus with my Mum and Noah. They went and sat down and I ordered the drinks. It was supposed to be a fun and novelty experience and also a good escape from the rain that had set in on our walk.

Red Bus

I asked for 2 Americarnos and an apple juice for Noah. It was freezing cold so I asked for a cup with some hot water in for Naoh to mix his cold apple juice with.

The lady who served me was lovely and said that would be no problem. Then a lady who was in charge came and told her off in front of me. She was cross and said that she needed to charge at least £1 for the hot water and ‘of course there was a cost!!!”. She was clearly quite stressed.

I said to leave the hot water and went to sit down and await the coffee. I couldn’t help feeling sorry for the poor lady who served me. She must have felt so embarrassed because of the way she was spoken to.

It really got me thinking about communication skills and how stress can make us loose our ability to communicate well.

Whatever our job we all have the potential to get stressed. Working some mindful moments into our work life is a great way to make sure we don’t let the stress take over and ruin our relationships with our colleagues and our customers.

If you find your stress levels rising at work then try this.

Take yourself away for people for just a moment.

Take a few deep breaths, in through your nose and our through your mouth.

Put a smile on your face. It may be false to start with but still do it.

Then return to work and make your focus to be kind and helpful.

Taking a proactive approach to sorting our your frustration is much better than letting it build. The more often you take a mindful moment the easier it will become to keep kind and helpful.

If you need more Mindful moments in your life then come on a Revitalise Session and get to grips with more simple techniques that could make all the difference.
