This morning I was watching Noah in his swimming lesson. He was trying so hard to introduce arm movements into his backstroke.
As I watched him my arms and legs were twitching. It was as though I was thinking about what he was doing so much my body wanted to make the movements for him.
This got me thinking about the massively strong connection between our body and our minds.
In just the same way as thinking about a movement can make us do it, the opposite is also true. If you want to achieve total body relaxation the way to do it is through the mind.
Give it a go right now – just focus on a particular body part and feel it relax. You might notice as sensation of warmth as you hold a particular area in your attention.
This is a great trick for when you want to get to sleep at night. Go through each body part and notice the relaxation that comes with your attention. Your mind is likely to wander off but every time you notice just gently bring your attention back to your relaxing body.
