This morning Noah and I were lucky to have a date with our friend Vicky and her baby Alex at a local park. Noah was delighted to have a chance to practise on his scooter and I really enjoyed the time we spent in the sun catching up.
Vicky walked with Alex in the pram to meet us. It was probably just over a mile for her and she looked great. She was smiling and relaxed and so was Alex.
Sometimes parents describe their children as their shadows. Always with them wherever they go. I prefer to think of them as our reflections. However we are they reflect this. If we are stressed they are too. If we are calm and content we see the same in them.
So as a parent you really will see the benefits if you manage to fit some Meditation in. The calm that you create for yourself will show in your child.
But on a practical note how on earth can new mum’s hope to fit Meditation in?
The great thing about Mindfulness is that it isn’t all about sitting still. Mindful walking with the pram can be a great place to start.
Mindfulness is simply about being present in the moment. Often when we walk our thoughts can be all over the place. An active body can promote an active mind.
However start to see the activity going on in your mind is a tool rather than a barrier. Turn your attention to the rhythm of your walking. Each time you notice your mind has wandered bring it back to the walking. This will happen time and time again, keep going, you are doing it right!
Each time you refocus your attention you are training your mind in concentration. After a while you will notice that your thoughts start to settle. You will find yourself with a little more headspace.
Getting a little more headspace is great because it makes life seem a little lighter. You will be amazed what you can achieve and how pleasant life can seem with a little more calm.
