In October I am delivering a session on Mindfulness during pregnancy at a Pregnancy Pampering Day run by Zest For life.
As soon as I knew I was pregnant with Noah I realised that I needed to take more care of my body than when it was just me. I needed to eat well, I wanted to sleep well, I stopped drinking and I tried not to lift heavy objects so not to put too much strain on my body. I only wish someone had told me about meditation and the amazing benefit it would have to relax my body, my mind and my unborn baby!
As a mother I have known from early on that I would do absolutely anything to help my child. Pregnancy is the perfect time to start. The 40 week window that pregnancy sets is an ideal time frame to get started. What ever stage of pregnancy you are at when you decide to start learning about mindfulness there will be time to make a difference.
By calming your mind you calm your body. By calming your mind and body you will calm your baby. It sounds obvious really but most of us don’t think about that. If you feel stressed,of course you baby will feel this too and will react, perhaps by being restless or unsettled.
Pregnancy is a really good time to enter into mindfulness and meditation. For most beginners the biggest challenge can be the commitment to sit each day and taking some time for themselves. When you know you are doing something for the good of your baby it can make all the difference in terms of whether you get it done. Think of your baby’s well being and it will give you the perfect motivation.
By the time you get to your due date you could be well into your routine of meditation and when your new born finally goes to sleep you will be perfectly prepared to chill out and get some rest too.
Come on the Pregnancy Pamper day to see how you could get started with mindfulness and meditation. It could be one of the best moves you make in terms of giving you and your baby a relaxed start together.
