Our minds really reflect that we are creatures of habit.
The great thing about habits is that they can be changed.
I have noticed a real change in my mental habits recently.
In the past I had an entrenched habit of waking up feeling anxious in the morning. It would be almost immediate, the second I was awake I was worrying.
My solution has been to Meditate as soon as I can after waking. This works for me, I am wide awake so I can be alert and it sets me up for a calm day.
Then a few days ago I noticed that things have changed. I no longer wake up anxious! AMAZING!
Strangely it was an anxious morning that made me realise things had changed. As I felt the anxiety creep in it felt strange and I realised it hadn’t happened for ages. I had a particular worry on my mind and it was the perfect wake up call to deal with it.
Since then it hasn’t happened again, i’m back to the peaceful wake ups!
Of course there will be odd days where I have something worrying me but the habit has been broken, I am not longer anxious for no good reason in the morning. Phew!
Mindfulness is all about getting to know your mind. Once you know how your mind works then you can start to work with it to make life better.
