Tonight I delivered a mindfulness session for a lovely group of Youth Workers. They are amazing, caring people who have the capacity and dedication to look after everyone else, all of the time.
It struck me that they really needed to look after themselves too. They are under pressure from the demands of the job and then there is more pressure from budget cuts.
This group were so caught up in their situation that when I arrived to deliver the session they were visibly tense, I could sense that they were going to be a challenge!
However, we had a brilliant hour of relaxation and brain training. They all entered into it and gave it their all. Afterwards they looked so much better.
They had more colour in their faces, their shoulders were lower, their jaws were relaxed and they were smiling! One had lost a pain in his neck and another had got rid of her headache. Amazing what an hour of mindfulness can do.
When I suggest a lunch time meditation break they let slip they they don’t have lunch breaks! They confessed that they rarely take a break from their computers.
It sounded all too familiar. So many of us spend our days staring at our screens convinced that we don’t have time for a break. We have too much to do, we are too busy.
Taking just 5 minutes in the middle of your day to allow your mind to unwind really can make a huge difference. By letting your thoughts settle you increase your capacity to focus and concentrate again. By letting your body relax you get rid of aches and pains.
I really find that taking a break adds so much value to what I get done and how I feel in the afternoon. By fitting in even a short meditation I feel so much better.
Come on a Revitalise Session to see how you could benefit from taking a little more care of yourself. When you look after your own well being even work can seem a little lighter.
