Noah turned 3 today. He has loved every minute, from the Dinosaur Juice for his Birthday Breakfast to the moment I said ‘Night Night my lovely 3 year old’ when I tucked him into his bed.
Of course he couldn’t wait to open his presents, he was so excited about the firework and sparker candles on his cake this evening, and he loved the attention of his grandparents. Most of all though he truly was thrilled to be 3.
He sat with Granny on his bed tonight and she asked him ‘so is it good being 3?’ ‘Yes’ he said. So why do we loose this enthusiasm in life? As we get older many of us start to dread our birthdays.
We start to worry about the fact that we are ageing. We worry about what is in store for us. That is the real difference. Children see the excitement ahead but as we get older we start to predict catastrophe instead.
If we can learn to be more mindful as we get older then we can enjoy every moment, even our birthdays. We can enjoy the party without anxiety about the consequences of the extra number.
Even as the special day draws to a close we can look forward with a positive attitude to all that the next year holds in store for us.
If you find your Birthdays difficult how about dedicating the next year of your life to becoming more mindful. By the time your next Birthday comes around you could have reversed some of the impact that age has on your brain and have learnt to enjoy every moment more.
Sounds like a plan? Come on a Revitalise Day to get started.
