I was reading one of my favourite online Yoga blogs the other day and an article about the benefits of the Legs Up The Wall Posture. It gave me just the boost I needed to add a little more yoga into my days.
So for the last few nights I have done 5 minutes of the pose before bedtime.
In just a few days the benefit has been amazing for me. My sleep has been better, my body more comfortable and my mind ready to rest. Give it a try…
Set a timer for 5 minutes.
Lie on your back with your sit-bones as close to the wall as is comfortable.
Extend your legs up the wall, so that the backs of your legs are resting fully against it.
Next put your hands on your tummy so that you can feel the rising and falling of your breath.
Continue to focus on the breath. Each time your mind wanders take the attention back to the breath.
When the timer goes off slide your legs down to one side. Allow yourself to rest on your side whilst your body adjusts and slowly bring yourself back to a seated position.
This yoga pose is an inversion. I love to include inversions in my yoga. They are really good for us because they help improve digestion, regulate blood pressure and help all our bodily systems to function properly.
By taking this time to slow down and by putting your body into this inversion you promote healing in your body and at the same time allow your mind to enter a meditative state. Amazing!
Inversions are all really good for us but many of them are physically challenging. This one is particularly great because it takes very little effort so the mind and the body can fully relax whilst you do it.
Come on a Sunday Chill Out to experience the mind body link at work in more amazing mind and body exercises.
