Mindfulness is all about getting to know your mind. When you understand how your mind works you have such an amazing ability to achieve anything.
Thoughts come thick and fast for most of us, most of the time. Taking some quiet time each day to let our thoughts settle is a great way to start recognising how hectic your mind sometimes is.
Trying to keep thoughts away by blocking them just doesn’t work. A much more effective way of slowing thoughts down is to flip this on its head with a simple game like technique.
Sit nice and upright somewhere quiet and set the timer on your phone
Try just 5 minutes as a starter
Close your eyes and maintain a focussed awareness
Start looking for thoughts and then label them as a thought when they appear, then start looking for the next one.
Maintain this for the period of the timer
When we try and resist thoughts they seem to come back even stronger. There will be more of them and they will seem pretty persistent. By taking the alternative approach you are in effect playing a trick that clears your mind. Look for the thoughts and somehow most of them disappear. Try it, it really is amazing!
Come on a revitalise day to see how you could learn some simple tricks to keep your mind fresh, active and a little lighter. Bookings now being taken for April 2016.
