Tonight I was up at the stables doing my jobs. My head was down and my mind was focussing completely on our pending house move. My body dutifully picked up horse poo – a daily chore that it can do on auto pilot!
Then I had that moment. I realised that I had been totally drawn away from the here and now and that I was lost in thought.
So I stopped, stood up straight and admired the view. The horses and the beautiful countryside, I was missing so much! Phew – what a relief! I immediately created a little bit more head space.
When we get swept away by our thoughts we should see it as a real success when we finally notice. When we are then able to take our attention back to what we are doing we are truly Mindful and present in the moment.
By learning to recognise that our mind has wandered and regularly taking it back to the present moment we retrain our brain to be present and focussed. The more you do it the bigger the difference that you will see.
