Today is International Women’s Day. To be honest I didn’t really know much about it and so I did a bit of Googling to find out.
From the articles that I read it seems that the ambit is huge and has amazing coverage…
1) The day is intended as a time to reflect on progress made.
2) It is an opportunity to call for change.
3) It is also seen as a time to celebrate acts of courage and determination by ordinary women who have played an extraordinary role in the history of their countries and communities.
Whilst International Women’s day is all about recognising the bigger picture it struck me that we could all do with addressing these areas in our own lives, men and women. Using these areas for reflection really could help us to be more mindful about the way we live.
Mindfulness is all about self awareness and that includes reflecting on our own progress. When we are aware of how we behave, how we appear, how we feel and how we think, we can be so much more effective in everything that we do.
If we have a target in mind then checking in on our progress can be really helpful, it can help to keep us to keep taking steps forwards and to make sure we are heading in the right direction.
When we are mindful we can view situations with clarity and so if things need changing we can see it. Rather than simply accepting things the way that we are we can make positive moves so that life is more as we want it to be.
If we can recognise our own acts of courage and determination then we can also recognise the thoughts and emotions that are created. As human beings we are preset to focus more on the negative so taking time to recognise the positives is a great way to promote positive thoughts and feelings.
So today, take some time to sit and think through how these areas for reflection apply to your life. Make a few notes to keep you focussed. Revisit these notes every now and then and you will feel more in control and more aware of the direction you are taking.
If you feel that you could benefit from more time for reflection then book onto a Revitalise Day. You will calm and still your mind so that you can think more clearly than ever.
