Yesterday, on The Sunday Chill Out, we did one of my favourite meditations. It is called The Inside / Outside meditation.
I love it because it so so simple yet you can feel such a difference.
Give it a try and see how you like it…
Sit up straight in a chair and close your eyes.
Bring all of your attention to the inside of you, your internal world.
Notice any thoughts.
Notice any feelings.
Notice and sensations.
Each time your mind wanders from inside you bring your attention back to your body, to you.
After a period move your attention to outside of you, the world around you.
Let any sounds come in and out of your attention.
Notice the temperature of the air that comes into contact with you.
Again, each time your mind wanders bring your attention back to the sounds and feelings around you. Keep returning your attention to outside of your body.
Then experiment by swapping between the two. This will develop your ability to change your focus.
Before you finish reflect on which you found easier to do? Was it more comfortable to keep your thoughts inside or to notice the outside world.
