Today I met up with a friend who I hadn’t seen since before christmas. She has been away for 6 weeks visiting family abroad.
As we caught up we were discussing how stressful it can be staying with other people for long periods of time. She came home craving her own space and feeling quite exhausted.
We were also saying how Mindfulness and Meditation are an essential coping tool for just these sorts of situations.
So if you are staying at someone else’s, or if you are going on a group holiday, try these tips to stay chilled out…
1) Make sure you take some time for yourself. It may just be 2 minutes sitting in your bedroom by yourself but use those minutes just to let things settle. Focus on your breath.
2) Be yourself. There is nothing more exhausting than trying to please someone else all the time. If you are relaxed then they will relax too.
3) Remember how important gratitude is. If you can write a list of things that you are grateful for it will help to overshadow any irritation that you feel. Writing the list will help you to focus enough to do this.
Mindfulness really can help you to enjoy every moment more – even when things seem difficult.
