Over the last couple of months I have been making an extra special effort to look after my gut health.
Scientists have shown that the gut is linked closely to our brain and really does impact on our stress and anxiety levels.
For me bloating after eating has been a really uncomfortable problem and this feeling certainly did impact on my mood. The introduction of fermented food has made things so much better.
Fermented food is full of probiotics. Their job is to create energy from food to feed the gut wall, they create some B vitamins and help digestion, but they also influence our emotional responses. It makes perfect sense that the fermented cabbage has been making me feel great.
I have been eating fermented vegetables. Sauerkraut is fermented cabbage and I LOVE it. my next challenge is to try making it myself!
So far I have been buying it from Tesco in big jars. The cabbage is sliced very thinly and is fermented in salt water. It is great added to any meal and I have really loved adding chilli sauce to it. The empty jars are great for the pantry too!
When I have eaten it I really sense that my tummy feels happy. It feels comfortable and relaxed. Mindful awareness of how my tummy feels has really helped me in embracing this solution and making it part of my daily life.
