On a Revitalise Day we always start with a green smoothie in a champagne glass. I think the type of glass makes it seem more special. It always starts the day on the right note. We start by nourishing the body with gorgeous healthy produce and then we continue to do this through mindfulness and meditation. Perfect.
This morning Noah, my 3 year old, and I started the day in the same way. We whizzed up a mix of ginger, pear, grapefruit, spinach, broccoli and cucumber. Delicious!
We normally drink from a tumbler at home but today Noah suggested that we should use our shot glasses.
It amazed me how much more I appreciated the smoothie just because of the glass that I was drinking out of. Rather than gulping it down at super speed the tiny glass meant that I savoured it and noticed every flavour in every mouthful.
We still had a similar amount, so we got just as much goodness, we refilled the glass a few times. It was such a good change to make in terms of appreciation.
So often when we drink a large drink or eat a large plateful of food we only really taste the first mouthful and the last mouthful. By keeping the quantity of each serving smaller it really does encourage mindful consumption. Every mouthful becomes a treat. Give it a try.
When you consume your food and drink mindfully you are able to be much more accurate in terms of how much you should have. Rather than getting too full and regretting having too much you can stop when you feel just full enough.
So try swapping your glasses and plates for a smaller version and see what a difference it could make to you. Sometimes simple changes can make the biggest difference.
If you would like to make your eating habits more mindful then book a Revitalise Session. Whether you want to be healthier, want to eat to heal your body or simply want to loose weight then mindful eating could be the answer.
