This afternoon Noah, Martyn and I went on a fruit mission! We are surrounded by apples and blackberries and they have been calling out to me for the last couple of weeks. This morning we got a leaflet through the door about a local food bank project and this kickstarted me into action. I cannot stand wasting food, it feels wrong when there are so many people in the world that need food.
So over a couple of hours we picked 4 wheelbarrows full of apples and a big bag full of black berries. The sun was shining, it was really warm, and we all enjoyed doing it.
We got home worn out, but pleased with ourselves. I got a massive sense of satisfaction from having got the job done. Obviously we won’t eat all of the apples, most of them are for the horses and they will provide much needed extra calories for them once the weather turns cold. Keeping them in a cool dark place means they will last for the next month or so.
So, by saving a bit of money by sourcing our own free fruit I have decided that I will make a donation to the food bank charity. Knowing that our lovely time picking fruit in the field is benefiting someone else too makes the experience even better.
Sometimes we can get so much more from the things we do just by paying a little more attention to our motivation. Thinking of others rather than just ourselves brings so much more happiness.
