Today I had a hectic morning pre meditation. I got Noah ready for pre-school and played Octonauts from the moment he got up to the moment he left. I did the horses, had a ride, went for a run and then sat to meditate before work. Phew!
Because I hadn’t managed to do my meditation first thing, as I normally like to, my routine was a bit out of sync. So, I decided to do a meditation that really got me back in touch with how I was feeling in the here and now.
We all have our own life events that get us racing through our day, if you have had a hectic day then try this…
Sit upright on a chair with your spine and head nice and straight.
Take a few deep breaths and then let your breathing settle.
Take your attention to any feelings of touch. These might be your hands on your lap, your body on the chair, your feet on the floor. Just explore those sensations.
Next move your attention to sounds. Imagine you are simply receiving the sounds, you aren’t listening hard but you simply notice them come in and out of your awareness.
Finally start to notice your thoughts. Again simply watch as they come in and out of your awareness.
As you move through these 3 senses your mind is bound to wander. Each time you realise that you attention has wandered congratulate yourself for noticing and then come back to the focus of your meditation.
I absolutely love this exercise. By giving yourself the time to notice your sense of touch, the sounds around you and the thoughts going through your head you are doing a really good all round chill out. You become so aware of everything going on around you, yet you remain at the heart of the exercise, more chilled out then you were before you noticed what was really going on! Magical.
Come on a Revitalise Day to get to grips with exercises that can make your day so much better and your state of mind so much calmer. The day is a mix of mindfulness and meditation and is in a beautiful location. You really will leave feeling revitalised.
