Yesterday I did my favourite Liz Earle face mask. Yes, I looked a bit silly for a while but it left my skin feeling great!
It got me thinking about how most of us rush through life with another sort of mask on! We can pretend to be fine, an easy going, happy go lucky type of person, and yet under that exterior we may be struggling to keep up with everything we have got to get done.
Most of us rarely take time to be kind to ourselves. Spending just a few minutes doing a face mask made me realise how really small efforts can make a big difference to how we feel.
When we meditate it is really common for our minds to wander. Slowing thoughts down and creating some head space is one of the huge benefits of regular meditation. Each time your mind wanders when you are meditating is is really important to be kind and gentle as you bring your attention back to the exercise you are doing.
Living mindfully and meditation really do go hand in hand. If you can learn to be kind to yourself in meditation then it will become easier in everyday life and vice versa.
Being critical of yourself and the way you deal with situations doesn’t change anything, there really is little point to the constant mental criticism that most of us inflict on ourselves. No one else is aware of all of the chatter going on in your mind, it is only you who suffers. If you can learn to be kind to yourself however, everyone will benefit. When you look after yourself and are understanding with yourself you will be happier. This will be visible to everyone around you so both you and they benefit.
So give it a go today. Have a go in meditation and have a go in real life. See how it works in both situations.
Coming on a Revitalise day is a great way to be kind to yourself. Devoting a day to yourself and your own well being will have a huge impact on the way you go back into your life. You will feel refreshed and revitalised and ready to tackle everything that life has to throw at you.
