Today I delivered an Introduction To Mindfulness to a group of busy professionals. They had been given work time to come to the session which created an openness and and willingness to give it a go.
I worked through an exercise giving them an explanation of how the skills of focus , concentration and observation transfer amazingly into everyday life.
But the most important message in the session?
Make sure you ENJOY your meditation!
If you look forward to your meditation time then you will get it done, every day! This way you will get masses of benefit.
If you make it too long and it becomes a hassle rather than an enjoyment then the habit won’t last long.
So here are my top tips for sticking with your meditation habit…
1) Make your minimum time short. I suggest setting a timer for just 5 minutes. Of course if you want to stay longer you can but if life is too busy then you have still made a difference that you can feel good about.
2) Experiment and find the exercise that suits you best. We all like different things. Trying out different techniques means you will find your best fit.
3) Be realistic. Over time you will improve your meditation skills but some days will be more challenging than others. If you have a busy mind do not tell yourself off – use this to boost your motivation! You need to sit more than ever!
If you are struggling with finding your best fit routine then get in touch – a private session could be just what you need to set you up for a more mindful life.
