Last night our family were all invited to the evening part of a friend’s wedding. It was a great excuse to get dressed up and have some fun celebrating the marraige. We all really enjoyed it.
I invited everyone for a pre party drink at our house so that we could all go together and that was a really lovely part of the evening. The hair straighteners and the nail varnish were out whilst we all shared a bottle of red sparking wine, perfect!
It got me thinking about how so often the best part of the night is that point where you are excited about the evening, you are finishing getting ready and having your first drink. Last night we were all ready a bit later than planned, the need for power naps took over!
Rather than getting stressed out and rushing around we all took our time and enjoyed helping each other get ready. No one got flustered and we enjoyed ourselves right the way through.
Learning to take our time and to slow down can be hard. Most of us are so used to having to rush around and be on time every day of the week. It is such a relief to remove some time limits when we get to the weekend, it can make so much difference.
So try thinking through the activities in your day. Decide whether you need to worry about the time or not. Sometimes we get so caught with rushing that we do it without thinking, we go onto autopilot. Being mindful is all about living in the moment and enjoying everything we do.
You might find that your days are all booked up. You might come to the conclusion that there is no choice but to clock watch. Try taking a bit more time and you will soon see that it can feel like such a luxury. Maybe after a taste of this you will decide to change things. Try keeping some days clear so that you can take the time pressure off completely. The more often you give yourself the opportunity to do this the better you will get at it. It may well take a few goes to be able to relax but persevere, it will be well worth it.
Being busy creeps up on us. With mindfulness it is something that we can manage. Come on a Revitalise Day to get a taste of a more relaxed way of being and see what a difference it makes to your life. Our day retreats are held in a beautiful and peaceful farmhouse and they will leave you with a taste of how your life could be better.
