Mindfulness is all about getting to know your mind. Once you know it better you can direct your focus more effectively so that you pay attention to whatever you chose. This can be a really useful tool in all sorts of situations.
The media is full of dietary advice at the moment and so many of my friends are on new diets and health plans to kickstart the new year.
I was talking to one friend who is on a diet and exercise plan and she is into week two. When I asked her how she was finding it she said after a couple of weeks she was finally able to think about something other than food, at some points in her day. She had become obsessed by what she couldn’t have!
When we try to limit our intake of food we are resisting our desires. So often when we resist a feeling it becomes even stronger.
It occurred to me that rather than resisting foods that you can’t eat refocussing your attention may be much more effective.
So if you are on a diet that limits what you can eat or the amount you can eat and it seems like a constant struggle then training your brain to refocus could really be the answer.
Next time you find yourself out in a cafe or bar looking to order you could try a different approach. Rather than looking at the menu and lusting after things you are trying not to eat look at the drinks menu instead.
Next time you are in the supermarket and you want a treat think about the liquid options rather than the confectionary!
Next time you want to bake a cake think about making a smoothie instead.
There are so many options! So try a new drink and you might be amazed how satisfying it is. You might also be amazed at the potential health benefits.
Most of us need to drink more and so often we mistake feelings of thirst for hunger, which then results in us overeating. Drinking more does wonders for our complexion and our digestive system so start today, every time you think you are hungry divert your attention to having a drink.
I had a sour Cherry juice when I was out last weekend and it was so lovely that I keep thinking about it. I looked it up and saw it was a really effective anti inflammatory! As I have MS this was good news for me. I really enjoyed it and didn’t miss the eating experience at all.
Try giving your drink the lime light for a while and see what a difference it could make to you.
On a Revitalise Day you will be greeted with a healthy juice and will be kept well hydrated through the day! You really will feel on top form by the time you go home.
