Today I have had to say goodbye to my big sister Hannah who is leaving to go home. Before long she will be on the other side of the world, calling us on FaceTime from her home in Australia.
Saying goodbye is always difficult because we don’t know when we will see her next. There are no plans to go to Australia from our point of view and it could well be a couple years before we can meet up again.
If I allowed myself to dwell on this separation I would be in tears and I would have found today really difficult. Thankfully my Mindfulness training allows me to redirect my attention so that I can manage.
Rather than focussing on the fact that she was leaving I was able to keep my attention on talking to her and having a nice time with her whilst she was still with us.
Learning to focus your attention where you chose is a great skill which allows you to make the most of your time and helps to maintain strong and positive relationships.
As human beings we have an inbuilt tendency to dwell on the negatives but we also have a great ability to train our brains.
If you would like to start training your brain so that you can focus on the positives in life come on a Revitalise Session to make a start. This way you really will make the most of every moment.
