When we were on holiday last week my sister bought an adult colouring book. They have become really popular in recent months and they seem to be available everywhere, even in a tiny book shop in Dartmouth!
If you haven’t tried colouring in for many years then maybe it’s time to dust off your colouring pencils and give it a go! Perhaps you have noticed how colouring seems to calm children down, well the good news is that it can do exactly the same for you!
The act of colouring in is great for reducing anxiety and producing a relaxation response in our bodies. It uses a small amount of brain power which is perfect for allowing us to relax yet keeping our mind occupied to such an extent that we don’t start worrying or ruminating whilst we are doing it.
If you are already into a meditation pattern then this can be a great addition to your day. A session of colouring in when you are feeling a bit too hectic and stressed out is a great way to slowly calm yourself down. Sometimes attempting to sit and meditate after a hectic day can be hard but a session of focusing on your colouring in book can provide a great stepping stone to total relaxation.
Our minds are just like our bodies. They need time to cool down after hectic period of activity. Trying to build relaxing activities into our days can make so much difference. By building in some more moments of calm we really can make a difference to how we feel at the end of the day. Rather than feeling mentally and physically exhausted we can end the day feeling calm and clear.
Come on a Revitalise Day to learn other great ways to calm your mind and slow things down. The day retreats are held in a beautiful tranquil farmhouse that provides the perfect atmosphere to get started on chilling out!
