Last week we went out in the evening for Martyn’s mums birthday. We met at a local pub for a meal in the evening and it was a bit too late for Noah. He had been on the go all day and his tiredness got the better of him as we sat down at the table.
Everyone was concerned because I was having to hold him whilst he slept but for me it was actually a real treat. I got a lovely cuddle for a couple of hours, he was like my personal hot water bottle.
As Noah has grown up I get far fewer cuddles than I used to when he was a baby. He is usually really active and excitable and had he been awake he would have been on the go rather than sitting on my knee.
Because I was forced to sit still I really enjoyed the warmth and stillness of his body. I really noticed the rising and falling of his tummy as he took long deep breaths as he slept. I really cherished every moment that he slept on me and that we had such close contact. I could really appreciate the feelings of love that I was enjoying.
Experiences like this are the perfect opportunity to be more mindful and to enjoy the moment. Often we are too busy to appreciate these simple pleasures, but when we get chance, making the most of the here and now is a really relaxing and often nourishing opportunity. It also allows us to acknowledge emotions that might otherwise go unrecognised.
Come on a Revitalise Day to learn how to train your brain so that you don’t miss out on amazing moments in your life. The day is relaxing and inspiring and will set you up to be more mindful in your everyday life.
