This morning I went for my run when it was still quite dark. I had a moment just before I left the door where I questioned whether I really felt like going. I stopped for a moment and thought about it. This was quite unusual for me, normally I love the opportunity to get out in the early morning.
I realised that some chill out music seemed like a nice idea so I grabbed my headphones. It was a really good decision. I listened to some pop vocals provided by Amazon Prime and they helped me to have a really enjoyable run.
I had already done my meditation so I was feeling relaxed and I think it was the thought of being too hectic that I was resisting. By having some music on I made the run more fun. By choosing something with a slower tempo I didn’t feel any pressure.
I went across the fields to the next village and by the time I got there I felt like doing something faster. I went onto the playing fields there and quickened my pace and did an interval session.
It seemed as though as soon as I had removed the pressure to do anything too hard I found myself wanting to do more.
Sometimes taking the pressure from ourselves by being kind and gentle can really help. If you force yourself to do something it can be very difficult to stay motivated. If you are a bit more generous and forgiving in terms of what you ask of yourself then you will find you will be striving to do more.
Learning to know your mind is a really valuable life skill. One you see how you can respond to your thoughts you are able to get through anything. Mindfulness is a great way to learn to know your own mind. Simple exercises can help you to recognise how your mind works and you can train your brain to function more effectively. Come on a Revitalise Day to experience the amazing impact that mindfulness can have on your mind and on your body.
