Today I woke up late after having worked a night shift and I had no particular plan for the day other than to relax.
Mum and Dad invited Noah to join them for porridge at breakfast time. After that Mum was heading to the church with a gang of villagers who were on a mission to smarten the place up!
Noah and I went along for the walk and then to help in the garden. We planted lots of bulbs ready for the spring and we drank coffee and chatted too. It was lovely.
Before long I as tasked with the job of trimming the candles inside the church. So using a pen knife I set about getting rid of the old wax and sculpting them into a neat shape that would successfully burn again.
I truly think I got the best job to do. I LOVED it! I sat quietly focussing on getting the candles to the right shape and really taking in pride in what I achieved.
Stilling still for a couple of hours and really getting into a job is a great way to become more focussed and to be Mindful. Whilst I was engrossed in the candles I was simply present in the moment. I had no worries about anything else, I just enjoyed doing what I was doing.
Voluntary work opens us up all sorts of unexpected tasks. Some things that we would never usually do in our everyday lives.
Mindfulness can be practised anywhere and doing absolutely anything, so it combines perfectly with voluntary work.
Doing a job with a good intent feels great and when you focus on it completely it truly does being amazing feelings of happiness!
