This morning I looked after my sister’s baby girl.
She didn’t want to be to be put down and so I had her in the Baby Bjorn carrier whilst I did some jobs round the house.
As I was wiping the top of the oven clean I noticed she had dropped off. So I put her on the sofa and enjoyed the peace! It got me thinking what a relaxing activity cleaning can be.
The repetitive motion of wiping was perfect to help the baby drop off. For me it gave me a lovely calm feeling. There was no where to rush off to and the job I was doing wasn’t stressful. I would go so far as to say I actually enjoyed it.
Making your house tidy and clean can actually be a great Mindfulness exercise and a total mood boost. We can train our brains to focus and concentrate as we do household jobs. Each time your mind wanders simply bring your attention back to the job you are doing.
The feeling of productivity is great. The process of doing it creates calm and really allows you to appreciate the end product! Sit back and enjoy the lovely place you have created when you finish!
So rather than looking on cleaning as a chore – maybe try to change your thinking and see it as an opportunity to create more calm!
