This morning I was out on my run as the sun was coming up. It really was a gorgeous view.
It sounds a bit cliche but I genuinely love, how, just as the sun rises every day, new concepts dawn on us every day. Our understanding just keeps growing.
In yoga our instructor often makes a point of showing us how a pose that seemingly looks the same can feel very different depending on whether you actually have your muscles engaged or not.
For a while now I have been very aware of this in the yoga class, it makes such a difference to the work out I get.
In the past couple of weeks I have become aware of how relevant this is when I am walking, and this morning when I was running I felt exactly the same difference.
Try it out for yourself. You don’t need to walk or run in any particular way, just as you normally do, except think about engaging your muscles as you do it.
If at first this seems confusing and you can’t work out the difference then try it standing still.
Stand up straight and very relaxed. Then make the change, turn your bottom on and tuck your tail bone under. Feel your leg muscles tense as you engage them. Turn your tummy muscles on.
When you feel that amazing difference you will want to try it more often. Making the difference is great. You exercise more, you are more powerful and you feel stronger. Give it a go, experiencing it is the best way to realise what I mean!
