This morning Noah, my 3 year old, came and sat on my lap whilst I finished my meditation. I was about 15 minutes in to a 20 minute session when I heard the noise of his, not so delicate, feet descending down the stairs.
As he came into the room I gestured to him to come and sit on my lap which he did. He crossed his legs too and we enjoyed the last couple of minutes of peace together.
Having Noah on my lap for the couple of minutes added a whole new element to my meditation. Having spent the first 15 minutes sitting completely alone and focussed on my breath I was hyper aware when he sat on my lap.
The feeling or warmth from his body was amazing. The smell of his hair right near my face struck me. His hands on my legs felt so gentle and lovely. I was so alive to the sensations from these senses of touch and smell that I appreciated them so much more.
Some times in our busy lives simple pleasures can be lost. We are often just too busy to appreciate everything that is going on. Taking some time to relax and to slow down can be all it takes to show you what you have been missing.
When you finish your next meditation sit still for a moment before leaping up to get on with your day. You will be amazed at how in touch you are with all of your senses.
Awakening yourself like this once a day really is magical. It means that you notice the little things in life. What could be more special than cherishing the moment that your little one sits on your knee?
Come on a Revitalise Day to discover how you could reveal some of the hidden pleasures in your world. The day is the perfect opportunity to take a step back and look at your life with fresh eyes.
