Tonight I went to my weekly yoga class with the lovely Anna. We had am amazing session full of stretching, strength and balance. I loved it.
I came out of the class with that lovely feeling of having worked but at the same time feeling refreshed.
I had certainly worked, some of the moves were tough and we held them for periods that stretched me to my limits.
The refreshed feeling was similar to the way I feel after an afternoon snooze (not that I get one of these very often!). The reason for that, i’m sure, was the deep breathing that we had carried on through the class.
By inhaling and exhaling fully we get rid of all the stale air and fill up with lovely clean oxygen. The physical impact of this is great and the mental impact is brilliant!
By focussing your mind on your breath you can really relax your body. In yoga a focus on the breath can help you to reach poses you thought were impossible.
So learning to work with the breath is a really great tool for life.
