Yesterday I led a Mindfulness session where we were focussing on swapping between the internal and the external.
So for the first half of the session we did some body scan work. We took our attention to each part of the body in turn, tuned into the breathing and centred all our attention inside.
Then we took our attention to the outside world. It was raining at the time so there was a good comparison to appreciate. We noticed the feel of the air on our skin, the sounds around us, nearby and far away.
Then the most challenging part was putting it together and learning to swap between the two.
Swapping between the two really builds our mental agility so that we develop that ability to put our focus where we chose.
Give it a go and see how agile your mind is!
This brain training exercise allows you to discover where you are most at ease. I find most relief from the outside world because naturally I am in an internal world.
Building this sort of self awareness is so useful. It really allows you to work with your mind.
