Following a recent blog about affirmations my friend pointed me in the direction of the idea of afformations.
I did some internet research and then I signed up to the POSITIVITYBLOG which explained it particularly well.
At the time when I read this it was on my mind that I should give the house a good post Christmas clean, but I was struggling to make myself fit it in. Every other job seemed more attractive than getting the vacuum out. So it was the perfect time to try a new approach!…
So rather than using the approach of affirming that ‘I clean the house well’, I asked a question instead.
‘Why am I always cleaning the house’.
Rather than putting my mind in a negative state where I would beat myself up and feel bad about my lack of motivation I found myself coming up with all the positive reasons why I clean the house.
It feels so much nicer
It’s good exercise
I feel good for doing it
I can think things through whilst I do it
and actually – once I get going I ENJOY it!
So I actually got on and cleaned the house!
Absolutely AMAZING! It totally turned my mood around and rather than feeling like I hate cleaning I have realised that actually I LOVE it!
The blog that I read pointed out how our brains respond well to questions. If we ask a question our brain searches for the answer. This prompts lots of related thoughts and as I experienced this can really make things a whole lot more positive!
