This morning I went swimming. I was going to a friends house for coffee and she lives en route to the pool so I decided to go early and to fit some exercise in first.
It was perfect. I felt very awake, happy and ready for a drink and a catch up when I arrived.
As I was driving home I was thinking about how much I enjoyed my swim. I also thought about my addictive personality. Over time I have realised that I go through exercise fads.
Because I went for a swim and loved it the addictive thing for me to do would be to go every day for a few weeks. Then I would get achey knees or sore eyes and decide to do something else instead.
But rather than falling into this trap again I decided this morning that I am going to try and go swimming once a week. That way I can also fit in a bike ride and a run each week too.
I know that doing a little bit of different forms of exercise is much better for me than getting too into just one sort.
So my new resolution is to vary my exercise each week.
Mindfulness is all about getting to know your mind. The mind and the body are very closely connected. When you allow your mind to find some calm then you learn to read your body and recognise what it wants and needs.
Mindfulness is about being present in the moment. If you are present then you are much more likely to stick to your intention.
