Today I had my lovely friends Cath and Cheryl round for lunch. I put rice into the microwave to cook and vegetables into the oven to roast.
Whilst the food was cooking I decided to make a start on cleaning the windows at the front of the house.
They were covered in cobwebs and dirt and they were calling out for a clean every time I looked at them.
So I filled a bucket with hot soapy water and got a couple of cloths. One to clean with the water and another to dry and polish.
I was managed to get though cleaning each of the windows before my friends arrived. The house looked so much better. And I felt so much better.
Rather than watching over the dinner I had my mind on the job I Was doing. It stopped me worrying about how lunch was doing and it meant that I had some relaxation time for my mind before lunch. Looking out for dirt and smudges was a great change from thinking about everything else that would usually take my attention.
When I did go in to check the food it was all perfectly cooked. Perfect.
As I stood there admiring my work Cheryl arrived. As we chatted I carried on with my cleaning and did her car windows for her! She was delighted.
Cleaning really is an amazing Mindfulness tool. It can help you to learn to focus your mind and also give you the ability to make others happy! Get motivated and give it a try today.
