This week I decided to have a couple tea lights on my work desk. I have had the radio on too at times and the combination of the music and the candle light made a huge difference to my time working.
The change in my environment was small but it certainly changed my perception of work. Rather than it being chore or an obligation I really settled down to enjoy my time in the office. It became a lovely calm experience. It almost felt like a luxury to set some time aside just to be there.
Taking some time to think about your environment could make a real difference to your everyday activities.
Candles and music are great tools to bring more Mindfulness into your life. Each time your mind wanders from what you are trying to focus on you can redirect your attention, assisted by the candle or the music. This focal point gives the mind a resting place, a point where it can be still, if only for a moment.
