All of us have hectic minds, they go on and on with more and more thoughts unless we do something to give them a break. Meditation is a great way to give your mind some time off.
Try this meditation for a taste of mental luxary!
Sit up straight with your back supported if it makes it more comfortable for you. Make sure you are nice and warm so you relax, a blanket round your shoulders will help.
Close your eyes.
Become aware of the rising and falling sensation that happens in tune with your breathing and spend a few moments focusing your attention on your breath.
Then spend a few minutes focusing your attention on your whole body – hold it in your attention.
Next let go of any focus and let your mind do whatever it wants to do. So if it wants to think, let it. There is no need to put any effort in here, there is nothing to create, nothing to achieve, just relax and let go.
When you are ready to leave that mental luxury or when every day life demands that you do start to become aware of sounds and feelings and then slowly open your eyes.
Before you jump up just reflect on how still and calm you feel. By keeping this memory you will be able to recreate this stillness in moments where you start to feel hectic again. All you need to do is to remember the feeling and you will be back there, amazing!
By asking your mind to do some work by focusing on a particular area or sensation you start to slow things down. When you then let go of the effort and allow your mind to do whatever it wants to do you will find that it loves to chill out and seems to be much calmer, it really does feel like a few minutes of luxury!
