So my Friday night plan was a bit different this week…
Often a Friday night will involve red wine and not going far from home but this week me and my lovely friend Cath decided to do something a bit different.
Neither of us were in the mood for big night out. I am off on holiday soon and Cath has just returned. So we decided between us on a much healthier option – a trip to Cath’s health club for a relaxing swim and a catch up.
I was delighted to find that I could have a free session just by downloading a guest pass from the website, and as Cath is already a member, she was pleased to make use of the facilities.
Starting the weekend off in such a positive way had a really great impact on my outlook. I found myself looking forward to the experience far more than if we had been meeting in a pub for a few drinks. I felt relaxed and content with myself for the choice that we had made.
For me a night out drinking can be accompanied by a lot of mental chatter, both before and afterwards. The plan to go out and exercise and relax did quite the opposite – I had a quiet and content mind. I knew I was doing my body and mind good.
Try adding something different and healthy into your week and see how you can get a whole lot of unexpected enjoyment, just by trying something new.
Mindfulness is about being present in the moment. Mental chatter pulls us away from the present moment. Reducing mental chatter mean’s that life seems a little lighter, give it a go and see how much better you feel.
