Yesterday evening I sent my friend Sarah a message asking if she fancied poping over for a glass of wine together. It was lovely because she replied saying she was just wondering whether to suggest it too.
We were both without our men and we had such a good girlie catch up. It got me thinking about friendships and the qualities that make them work best…
1) Flexibility. As life gets busy our diaries get complicated. It gets hard to fit a date in to get together. Having the confidence and the presence of mind to send a message at the last minute on the off chance that it might work means that you open up the opportunity to fit in extra time together.
2) Forgiveness. Sometimes life gets in the way and despite your best intentions you simply struggle to get enough time with those that you care about. Putting yourself in their shoes can be enough to ease feelings of frustration when your friends can’t be there for you.
3 )Fun. As we grow up the fun that we once had in our friendships can dissolve and we can become too serious. Having a good giggle is so good for us and really helps us to relax. Mindfulness really does help you to let go of your worries and to see the lighter side of life.
